Cantina Andriano

Region:
Trentino Alto Adige, Italy

Cantina Andriano lies in the heart of the norther most province of Italy, called Alto Adige and is the oldest winery from the region, founded 1893. It’s not only the oldest but also the smallest, with 80 hectares of vineyards. It is a wine-growing village on the left bank of the Adige valley going from the capital Bolzano to the town of Merano. The climate is Mediterranean with high temperatures difference between day and night, so they maintain freshness and high acidity in their wines. Vineyards are exposed to East/South-east and lie on gentle hills at 250 – 350 meters above sea level on chalky, calcareous soil with white dolomite rock.

The production is about 500.000 bottles, divided in 60 % of white wines and 40 % of red wines. The majority of whites is on Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, for the reds is Lagrein and Pinot Noir mostly.

The wines are divided in two lines: the classic and the selection lineThe classic are all vintage wines, so from the last harvest always. White wines age only in stainless steel tank, reds in stainless and big oak. The Selection wines come from selected vineyards/parcels with lower yield and different ageing. The reds do 18 months in Barrique, Doran Chardonnay Riserva 12 months in tonneau and Andrius Sauvignon blanc 9 months in big oak mixed with stainless steel.
